Report on our annual NHLI Postgraduate Research Day

Starting within your institute is the perfect opportunity for friendly feedback and suggestions on techniques and ways to improve. Following the successful event we asked a couple of attending students to give us their thoughts on the day itself.

I also had the opportunity to judge both posters and presentations. Thanks to all research and academic staff whose input and participation on the day is invaluable to its success. Attending supervisors and lab members are able to critique and advise the Nhlii students to help them for future presentations in their careers.

It gave me to the opportunity to also meet people who I may have communicated with via email on certain projects and also have a friendly face to face discussion about our science.

This year the event saw 43 students deliver poster presentations, while 25 students gave oral presentations simultaneously. The day often tehsis quite packed. The added bonus was that, as the audience consisted of Imperial College London tjesis and students, they were particularly well-informed and often had personal experience of the kinds of research question, techniques and even specific laboratories that the presenters were discussing”.

Listening to the oral presentations was a highlight. The usual things – hearing about other research, presenting, answering questions. I enjoyed the informal aspect too – it is not always often you can meet with senior academics from different departments to chat.
